Gossypium tomentosum, commonly referred to as Ma'o, is classified as vulnerable, likely to become endangered in the near future due to coastal development, and is extinct in the wild on Kaua'i. Hawaiian Cotton is endemic to Hawaii and its habitat includes dry, rocky, or clay coastal plains.
