Shave Ice is a local staple. It is finely shaved ice (usually from one solid block of ice), and then it is covered with a syrup of some sort. These days, you can add many things to your shave ice. For example, you can have a layer of ice cream on the bottom, and you can top your shave ice with things such as mochi balls, li hing, toasted coconut shavings, and even condensed milk!
Do you have a favorite shave ice stop? Kaʻiu's is Ululani's Hawaiian Shave Ice on Maui (they have different syrups like pickled mango, calamansi, tamarind, and Tiger's blood)!
