Hibiscus Illustration Workshop

Join Native Hawaiian wahine artist Kea Peters of Kākou Collective for a guided illustration workshop focused on drawing hibiscus. In celebration of Native Hawaiian Plant Month, this class centers around the five species of hibiscus endemic to Hawaiʻi—plants found nowhere else in the world—creating space to slow down, observe, and better understand their form through drawing.

You’ll be guided step-by-step through the process of breaking down the hibiscus—studying its structure, proportions, and details—so you can translate what you see onto paper with confidence. This workshop is designed to build a strong foundation in observational drawing, helping you develop skills you can carry into your own illustration practice.

Not sure where to start with drawing? Kea will walk you through each step of the process, with reference materials provided so you can focus on learning how to see and draw.

This is a pencil-focused class, allowing you to focus on line, shape, and shading while building your confidence and control.

We provide:
All drawing tools and materials (pencil-based)
Practice paper and reference materials
Step-by-step instruction and guidance

Optional:
If you have preferred drawing tools you’ve been wanting to try, you’re welcome to bring them along.
