Kākou Collective will be a featured artist at the MAMo Wearable Art Show on February 18, 2023! We are beyond excited to share the stage with so many talented creators from across Hawai‘i. Come to the Hilton Hawaiian Village Tapa Ballroom to find see our art in motion.

Maoli Arts Month (MAMo) was first introduced by PA‘I Foundation and Bishop Museum back in 2005 as a way to celebrate Native Hawaiian arts, artists, and cultural practitioners. PA‘I rebranded MAMo to “Maoli Arts Movement” in 2015 and continues to host celebratory programming all year long.

PA‘I's mission is to preserve and perpetuate Native Hawaiian cultural traditions for future generations. Kumu Hula Vicky Holt Takamine founded PA‘I in 2001 to establish and maintain a sustainable Native Hawaiian arts and culture center in urban Honolulu. Today, PA‘I is run by members of Takamine’s hālau, Pua Ali‘i ‘Ilima. Hula plays an important role in the survival of the Native Hawaiian culture and has the potential to be utilized to empower nā kanaka maoli. It’s only fitting that the acronym of Pua Ali‘i ‘Ilima - PA‘I - means “sudden impact”.

Stay tuned for more information about the event coming soon! A hui hou.
