We were on HI Now Daily! Central Pacific Bank celebrated Small Business Week by putting the spotlight on a few local business, and we were honored to be one of the businesses selected.
In our segment, I shared how we got our start, showed some of our products and talked about how CPB has helped us as we grow.
It started at the kitchen tableKainoa's first question was about our start. Our story begins at my mom and dad's kitchen table, and it meant a lot to tell that story on the show.
But we really grew during COVID. Every Monday at 6 p.m. we went live, welcoming our community to draw with us and learn about plants that have cultural significance to Hawaiʻi.
It was May Day, so Kainoa asked us to share some of our products. We featured our lei wraps, because I wanted my water bottle to look like it just came out of graduation season.
We also featured our greeting cards. To us they are more than a greeting card: each one is an educational opportunity to share about the art on the front.

Kainoa has interviewed us before, and he noticed we now carry more clothing than the last time he saw us. We went through some of our apparel pieces together.
I shared that the tees we featured had just launched at Hoʻomau Hawaiʻi. It is an amazing market and one of our personal favorites to be part of, because of how they prioritize choosing vendors that perpetuate Hawaiian culture and language.
CPB has been a big part of that growth. Our amazing banker has always made me feel comfortable talking about finances, which is not something every small business owner can say.
Together we work through the obstacles and opportunities we are facing right now. Just as important, our banker helps us anticipate what is coming next.
A Big MahaloA big mahalo to Kainoa for such a fun interview, and for helping me wish my mom a happy birthday. And thank you to Central Pacific Bank for including us in Small Business Week.
