About the Design

Designed by Native Hawaiian wahine artist Kea Peters, the Kapa Kuiki Tee reflects her annual tradition of creating a new kapa kuiki illustration at the end of each year—each one inspired by a plant that offered guidance during that time. This year’s design features a grid of twelve kapa kuiki honoring plants that have shaped our journey: kalo, lehua, naupaka, lauā‘e, ʻulu, kukui, ʻilima, pakalana, pikake, and pua kenikeni.

Kapa kuiki carries a story of resilience and adaptation. Born from the blending of Hawaiian and Western quilting, it offered a faster way to create kapa-like textiles when traditional materials became scarce. Its name, “kapa kuiki” (quick kapa), honors this innovation and the enduring creativity of Native Hawaiian makers.

At Kākou Collective, that same spirit of adaptation lives on. What began as an annual artistic ritual eventually gave rise to the kapa kuiki that became part of our logo — a reminder that our stories, like our art, are ever-evolving expressions of place, people, and possibility.

The Heavyweight Tee

Soft, sturdy, and perfectly worn-in — like an old favorite from day one.

Made from 100% ring-spun cotton and garment-dyed for a sun-washed finish, this tee carries that effortless island feel — timeless, relaxed, and made to last. The substantial weight and subtle color variation give each piece its own character, unique to the wearer and the journey it takes.

We believe in making things that stand the test of time. Choosing durable, well-made garments means less waste and more care for the ʻāina we call home — one thoughtful choice at a time.

Details:

  • 100% ring-spun cotton, garment-dyed for softness
  • 6.1 oz heavyweight fabric
  • Relaxed, unisex fit
  • Pre-shrunk for lasting shape
  • Twill-taped shoulders for added durability
  • Each piece has unique color variation

I love that the [puakenikeni] lei design catches everyone's eye, and I love telling them about this local artist when they ask. It's not just a sticker - it's a durable piece of art that brings a touch of aloha to my everyday items. Definitely getting more to add to my collection!

I absolutely love my lei wrap sticker from Kākou Collective! It's been on my water bottle through beach days, hikes, and countless washes, and it still looks as beautiful as the day I put it on.

Been using lei wrap stickers on my laptop and water bottle for over a year now and I'm amazed at how well it's held up! The vinyl quality is top-notch - no fading or peeling even with daily use. But what I love most is how Kea captured the lei in such a beautiful way. These stickers are the perfect blend of beauty and durability!
