Hauʻoli Makahiki Hou!

Hauʻoli Makahiki Hou! (Happy New Year)

It is officially 2024! Now that the holiday season dust has settled, we wanted to take a minute to let you in on a few exciting things we got cookin’ for our little shop in the new year!

In February, in honor of Ka Mahina ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian Language Month), we will be doing a collaboration with not one but two awesome forces! We can’t give too much away right now, but we can say that it will be with someone’s favorite kumu (teacher) and another beloved local brand. We can’t wait to see how it turns out! The collaboration will also feature a product that aims to perpetuate ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi by incorporating Hawaiian language into our daily life.

This spring, we are excited to announce that we’ll be back in Hilo for our favorite hula event – Merrie Monarch! Keep an eye out for us at the mākeke (markets) where we will be dropping brand-new mea that we are so stoked about!

In April, we will be celebrating Ka Mahina Lāʻau Kamaʻāina (Native Hawaiian Plant Month) all month long. Just like last year, we are working with Laulima Hawaii and Kalumaika to bring you the scoop on the coolest native plants around! A bit about each of these awesome companies…

Kaulumaika

Kaulumaika works to promote Hawaiian plants and language through art. The company’s mission is to, “Redefine the world's perspective of Hawaiian Culture through creativity, community, and education.”

To learn more about Kaulumaika, check out their website or join the Kaulumaika community on Instagram where owner and illustrator Emily States provides content on Native Hawaiian Plants and Hawaiian Language.

Laulima Hawaii

Started by Danya Weber, a conservation biologist, the goal of Laulima Hawai'i is to support conservation efforts, build resilience against climate change, and reintegrate native species into people’s everyday lives.

Follow Danya's journey and support her work through her website or join her community on Instagram where she advocates for Native Hawaiian Plants, shares her knowledge, and provides resources so that you can be an advocate too.

We will have one more supah secret collaboration during the month of April and several new products coming to our shop, so make sure you’re subscribed to our Hap-E-Mail list to learn more as we get closer. Stay tuned for more sneak peeks for the rest of 2024!

A hui hou! (Until next time)
