Aloha, Kākou Collective ‘Ohana!
We are excited to announce that for our *first* out-of-state event this year, we will be at Seattle’s Live Aloha Hawaiian Cultural Festival! This will be our second time attending this festival as a vendor and we are so excited!
In a previous blog post, we mentioned how sadly, many Native Hawaiians have been displaced. Due to the rising cost of living and lack of jobs, many Hawaiians have had to leave the islands. For this reason, we feel it’s super important to bring Kākou Collective to our hui living outside the state. Everyone deserves to have the experience of shopping a local mākeke (market) and supporting local businesses.
The Live Aloha Hawaiian Cultural Festival shares this mission. Their aim is to create a ‘home away from home’ community which perpetuates Hawaiian music, dance, and culture. This wonderful and *FREE* event will take place on Sunday, September 10 at the Seattle Center (305 Harrison St., Seattle, WA, 98109). If you’re in the area, please come check it out! There will be award-winning musical performances, hula, and great shopping!
Kākou Collective will have a booth at the event on Sunday, so if you want to stock up on all our
newest mea, come by and say aloha to us! And to show some extra love to our mainland ‘ohana,
we will be debuting a *new* microfiber towel design at this festival! We don’t want to give too
much away, but you can expect a gorgeous lā‘au lapaʻau theme (Hawaiian practice of using
herbs and plants medicinally) on our popular super-soft and ethically-sourced towels.
On Saturday, September 9, pre-festival cultural workshops will be held at the same venue. There
will be a variety to choose from, including ones on speaking ‘ōlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian
language), playing ‘ukulele, and illustrating native plants and lei flowers.
Yup! You read that right! Our very own Kea Peters will be dropping her knowledge in a ‘make-
and-take’ illustration workshop! She will be teaching you how to draw a beautiful lāʻau (plant)
on a canvas bag that you can keep when you’re pau! So fun! Workshop attendees will also
receive a private shopping experience with first access to our brand-new microfiber towel!

A hui hou! (Until next time)
