Lei Nahele Art Print
Nahele: Forest, grove, wilderness, bush; trees, shrubs, vegetation
Nahele is a lei Wili papa (wili: wind, twist, turn; papa: flat surface) where the decorative material is lashed to a center cord with a wrapping technique, often used for lei pāpale (lei for your hat), or lei poʻo (lei for your head). This lei was created using lauaʻe, kī, and palapalai.
Matted Prints are giclée prints produced with archival inks on acid-free paper to ensure print permanence. All matted prints include an archival back mat so they are protected and ready to frame. To fit standard sizing and allow for easy framing, slight cropping from the original may occur.
From the Artist
Nahele is inspired by lei made for the Aloha Week Parade by my husband (Dave) and friend (Haily). Using only Palapalai, Lauaʻe, and Kī, they were challenged with creating similar lei using only three materials and rafia/ti as the binding.
